ARROW Annual Holiday Brunch, November 23

Dear Arrow Members,

Sunday, November 23, 2014 is the date for the annual ARROW HOLIDAY BRUNCH. This is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Feel free to bring everyone in the family.

Coffee starts at 10:00 am and the brunch itself is served from 10:30 am until 1:00 pm. The brunch will be at:

Sheraton Ann Arbor
3200 Boardwalk Drive
Ann Arbor, MI 48108
(734) 996-0600

We will be meeting in the Garden Room. The room is available to us from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Of course, there will be both breakfast and lunch foods served: made-to-order omelets, prime rib, peel and eat shrimp, salad, fruit, chicken, fish and much more.

The prices (with gratuity and tax) have been rounded up to the nearest dollar and are as follows:

Adults 21.00
Seniors 65+ 18.00
Children 4-12 16.00

Children under 4 eat free.

Because we will be getting only one bill from the hotel, please be prepared to pay in CASH. I’m sorry if this is inconvenient, but it is the way we need to do it again this year.

Come join your ham radio friends and families for this wonderful holiday outing.

73,

John Wasciuk

Next ARROW Meeting, November 12, 2014, 7:30 PM

The November meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 12 in or near room BE-172 at Washtenaw Community College. We will start gathering at 7 PM. The business meeting starts at 7:30 and will be followed by a presentation by Jerry Begel, W9NPI:

A Brief History of Military Communication is a lively, 45-minute PowerPoint presentation that covers 3000 years of “History that we may have missed,” including:
• Ways to Communicate
• Encrypting Secret Messages
• Identification-Friend-or-Foe
• Propaganda
• The Red Menace and its Technological Aftermath

Jerry Begel has been presenting his “History of Telegraphy” lectures to many radio clubs and organizations in the Detroit Metro Area over the past five years. He has been an Amateur Radio Hobbyist (W9NPI) since 1958, and is a Life Member of the American Radio Relay League. As a member of the Antique Wireless Association, he has presented several lectures at their International Conventions in Rochester, NY. He was involved in the Military Affiliate Radio System and Detroit Civil Defense during the “dangerous” 1960’s, and once specialized in converting War Surplus radio equipment to “Ham” Use.

Following the meeting, at approximately 9 PM, many of us migrate to Red Robin on Carpenter Road for a late dinner or snack. All are welcome. Please note, you do not need to be a member to attend the meeting or to join us at Red Robin.
