In late 2018, one of our members, Roger, W8ZRF, became a Silent Key. The family approached us for help in disposing of his amateur radio equipment and graciously offered to donate a portion of the proceeds to the club. Dan KB6NU had the hare-brained scheme to start a scholarship fund with that money.

Over the years, money trickled into the fund. We helped the families of several other members who passed, and members have made donations along with paying their annual dues.

The initial goal was to reach $10,000 . It is at this level that an endowed scholarship could be set up with a foundation, such as the Washtenaw Community College Foundation. With this investment, the foundation would award a $500 scholarship in perpetuity. With the sale of some of the equipment from the estate of Sam, K8NOS, at the recent Livonia ARC Swap, we have finally reached that goal in February 2025.

Thanks to everyone that has helped us get to this point.

Now that we have hit the $10,000 mark, we would like to shoot for a $20,000 fund. To help us reach that goal, two of our members have said that they would match donations up to $2,500 each, and a third and forth member have already agreed to contribute $1,000. This means that we now need only about $3,000 to get to the $20k level. We think that we can do this!

Current Status as of March 9th, based on donations and pledges. Image does not update in real time.
