Serving Radio Amateurs in Michigan's Washtenaw & Wayne Counties

Just a Reminder!: Change in Date for Monthly Egg Chew at the Classic Cup Cafe: December 28, 9:00 a.m.

The monthly breakfast at the Classic Cup Cafe will take place on Saturday, December 28 at 9:00. We were contacted by the Classic Cup to inform us that their room would not be available on our usual Saturday because they are having Breakfast with Santa that day. Since December 28 was available, we opted to move our date.

Election Results

At the December general meeting, the following people were elected to the ARROW Board of Directors:
Harvey Bauss, KB8MUP, Treasurer
Mary Anne Stoner, W8VWY, Secretary
Jay Nugent, WB8TKL, Technical Coordinator
Jim Lommel, WD8RWI, Public Service Coordinator
John Wasciuk, WA8TON/VO1TON, Activities Coordinator

You may notice that we do not have a President. No one stepped forward to take on this role. However, it’s not too late. According to the bylaws, a President may be appointed by the Board of Directors, so if anyone is interested, please let one of us know right away. Also, although he is not elected, the Trustee Delegate was not determined yet because none of the station trustees were present at the meeting and have not expressed their wishes, to my knowledge at least, to the board.

December Meeting: Elections and White Elephant Swap

What: ARROW General Meeting
When: Wednesday, December 11, 2013, 7:30 PM
Where: In or near BE-172, Washtenaw Community College

As usual, we will start gathering at 7 PM. The meeting will officially start at 7:30. This month the meeting will consist of our annual election of officers. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WILLING TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT AND ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR (2 separate positions). The other board positions are currently occupied by people willing to serve another year, but these positions are also available, should you be so inclined. The current slate of nominees is:
Harvey Bauss, KB8MUP for Treasurer
Mary Anne Stoner, W8VWY for Secretary
Jay Nugent, WB8TKL for Technical Coordinator
Jim Lommel, WD8RWI for Public Service Coordinator
Ken Coe, KD8IPN for Trustee Delegate

In addition to the elections, we will have a White Elephant Swap. This is purely voluntary. Surely you have some item (aka boat anchor) that’s been taking up space in your shack that you would like to give to a new home. Wrap it up to hide its awesomeness and put it on the white elephant table at the meeting. People who bring a white elephant will be able to choose one from the table to take home. Rules of this delightful tradition will be explained at the meeting, but the item can be anything, large or small, that you would like to give to someone else.

Please think seriously about if you are able to serve your club as one of the officers.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (734) 649-2722.

Mary Anne, W8VWY
ARROW Secretary

November Meeting, Wednesday, November 13, 2013, 7:30 p.m., BE-172 (or nearby room), Washtenaw Community College

Please join us for the next regular Arrow meeting. In addition to nominations for club officers for 2014, we will have a discussion of embedded computer development environments. These are pieces of software that you run on a desktop/laptop that allow the creation of custom software and applications to run on computers built into other devices. This will be a brief survey of things you can investigate on the way to developing your own stuff. Nothing beats the thrill of doing it yourself.

I plan to have presentations on the Beagle Bone Black, the Arduino, the Basic Stamp, and the PIC family.
